Just about the only thing that has remained the same in the past 25 years for Vancouver-based fashion retailer Plum is its name.

In 1982, Kate O'Brien started selling vintage clothing out of a 750-square-foot store in Kitsilano on a shoestring budget of $5,000. Friends and family pitched in to paint the walls and put up fixtures, and O'Brien crossed her fingers that she could make a go of it.
